MOROCCO DAY 2 - EXPLORATION
Today was a sharp contrast to the previous day spent solely in the Medina. I planned for adventure and booked an excursion to the Atlas Mountains and Ourika Waterfalls. As part of the package provided by Marrakech Camel Tours (cost 55 euro) I also visited a traditional Berber house for a tea ceremony and had a 20 minute camel ride in the mountains.
Some snaps throughout the day:
My thoughts on the tour: Thumbs up. It was personal and active. You get to climb the mountains and get away from the hustle and bustle of the medina and new city. The views from the top are awe inspiring and it is amazing to see how vast the Atlas Mountains are.
Tips- Dress comfortable and wear activewear. One of the fellow travelers who took the tour and had a few close calls because of wearing tennis shoes with no grip.
There are merchants in the mountains who sell Berber craftwork, purchasing souvenirs from them supports the town and the quality is better than the products sold in the main square in the city.
The Medina is safe and for the most part people are looking to help you. After being there for a day I better assimilated and in return felt more comfortable within the walls of the Medina. I also had very hospitable host Youssef and Kadijah who took turns preparing breakfast for us and taking care of the Riad.
